About The Position

Family Practice Associates (FPA) was founded in 1983 and has grown to be one of the largest family practice groups in Central Kentucky. FPA is a group of primary care providers dedicated to family-centered care from birth to later years. FPA has over 20 primary providers including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and a marriage and family therapist. With a professionally trained staff of CMAs, receptionists, lab techs, and others, FPA provides award-winning care recognized as a Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) through the National Commission on Quality Assurance. FPA works diligently to offer Central Kentucky families enhanced access to medical care at its Hamburg & Brannon Crossing locations, as well as online.

Requirements

  • Master's or Doctoral degree in counseling or a counseling-related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Currently licensed to practice counseling services in the state of Kentucky.
  • Minimum two-three years of experience in providing counseling services.
  • Broad background with diverse patient populations, preferably in a medical office setting.
  • Knowledge of professional counseling principles, methodology, and ethics.
  • Knowledge of human psychosocial development within the family, community, and culture.
  • Knowledge of the use of the therapeutic relationship to foster patient involvement.
  • Familiarity with brief therapy theories/techniques and therapeutic process.
  • Understanding of techniques for facilitating client motivation to change behavior.
  • Ability to address concerns through talk-therapy and by modeling adaptive, sustainable behaviors.
  • Ability to promote constructive self-reflection, helpful coping techniques, and nurturing relationships.
  • Ability to monitor perceptions about and adherence to suggested treatment.
  • Skill in crisis intervention.
  • Skill in client advocacy.
  • Skill in case management.
  • Ability to interact effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary health care team.
  • Ability to identify and utilize community resources.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, appropriately, with a diverse patient population.
  • Ability to be empathetic, sensitive, and driven to foster healing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, professional relationships with all peers, management, and patients.
  • Good communication skills (written and oral).
  • Fine motor skills necessary to operate a computer.

Nice To Haves

  • Training and experience with EMDR/ART, emotionally focused couples therapy, Family systems therapy, and/or bariatric psychological assessments.
  • Familiarity with patients experiencing medical complexity.
  • Knowledge of Electronic Health Record.

Responsibilities

  • Providing professional counseling and treatment services to patients and families, including direct counseling and treatment modalities, services, crisis intervention, and coordination of community services/resources.
  • Conducting comprehensive, culturally sensitive psychosocial assessments.
  • Developing care plans.
  • Providing counseling and crisis intervention services to individuals and families.
  • Coordinating services with appropriate clinic and community resources.
  • Providing information and education about health/mental health issues to individual patients and groups.
  • Documenting assessment, intervention, and treatment data in the medical record.
  • Performing any other tasks deemed appropriate and assigned by FPA.
