Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or United States Department of Education (USDE).
  • Must possess current valid licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor.
  • Must maintain valid licensure for continued employment in position.
  • A valid driver’s license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.

Responsibilities

  • Providing counseling services to Inmates and implementing complex treatment and discharge plans for Inmates with dual diagnosis, social or mental health issues.
  • Serving as a professional resource to other counselors in resolving complex case problems and providing clinical supervision and guidance.
  • Providing mental health services to Inmates in compliance with medical and East Texas Treatment Facility (ETTF), Management &Training Corporation (MTC), and Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) directives.
  • Knowledge of alcoholism, chemical dependency, addiction, co-dependency, and related disorders.
  • Designing and implementing complex programs, treatment, and discharge plans for Inmates with dual diagnosis, social or mental health issues; conducting intensive or comprehensive interventions.
  • Assuming independent clinical responsibility for all Inmates, including the application of crisis intervention techniques such as suicide prevention, recognizing abnormal behavior, and taking appropriate action to prevent or diffuse potentially disruptive situations.
  • Collaborating with supervisor or other psychiatric, social work, or medical professionals on specific case-related issues to maintain continuity of care and to aid in achieving therapeutic and restorative goals for Inmates through individual and group counseling.
  • Conducting diagnosis and evaluation tests for Inmates to determine needs, establish goals, and develop plans; making referrals to contract professionals for assessment and treatment of Inmates.
  • Preparing progress reports; providing recommendations regarding discharge plans; making case presentations; and assisting the program supervisor and treatment team.
  • Maintaining and monitoring the confidentiality of Inmates and their files; auditing files to determine that all services provided are documented; reviewing the status of Inmates to determine that all treatment and therapeutic programs are completed.
  • Attending scheduled staff meetings; promoting communication and the proper flow of relevant information between administration, staff, and Inmates.
  • Promoting the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed; providing regular feedback to staff regarding social skills procedures and intervention techniques.
  • Maintaining accountability of Inmates and property; adhering to safety practices.
