About The Position

The Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) is a trauma informed care agency focused on implementing our core values and providing support to people with developmental disabilities. We oversee a statewide system of supportive services that focus on ensuring the health and safety, supporting access to community participation, and increasing opportunities for meaningful employment. The Gallipolis Developmental Center is located along the Ohio River within the historic city of Gallipolis. We provide off-campus work/habilitative activities provided during the day. In addition, we also have an Activity Center on-ground for habilitation, recreation, work-readiness and therapeutic training for individuals choosing those activities. We also provide a full array of health services, as well. Requirements

  • License to practice nursing as a licensed practical nurse issued by Ohio Board of Nursing pursuant to Section 4723 Ohio Revised Code & proof of completion of an approved course in medication administration.
  • Licensed Practical Nurses who administer dialysis treatment must possess Certification in IV Therapy pursuant to Section 4723.17 Ohio Revised Code.
  • The final candidate selected for the position will be required to undergo a criminal background check.
  • The final applicant selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis prior to the appointment to test for illegal drug use.

Responsibilities

  • Administer nursing care within scope of practice as outlined in section 4723.01 to 4723.40 of the Ohio Revised Code.
  • Works under direction of a Registered Nurse, licensed Physician, Dentist, Podiatrist, or Optometrist.
  • Performs skilled practical nursing procedures and treatments (e.g., obtains vital statistics, applies oxygen, applies sterile dressing, inserts catheters; reinserts gastroscopy tubes, suctions, wound treatments, administers enemas, douches, obtains specimens, administers Enteral feedings, administers medications controlled and non-controlled to include oral, rectal, topical, inhalation, subcutaneous and intramuscular).
  • Observes, documents and reports patient conditions and takes appropriate actions.
  • Provides thorough and knowledgeable report of patient needs to RN/Physician.
  • Provides patient teaching.
  • Monitors patients during and as follow-up for procedures.
  • Assists RN and Physician as needed.
  • Responds to Emergencies, provides first aid, performs cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, uses and directs use of AED in emergency.
  • Maintains medical accountability records and prepares related reports/forms (e.g., charts/patient records, medication administration records, unusual incident forms, seizure documentation forms, restraints logs, and other forms as required).
  • Completes thorough and knowledgeable documentation.
  • Verifies and implements Physician’s orders.
  • Completes and maintains controlled drug administration/tracking records- reports any inaccuracies in documentation immediately.
  • Completes and maintains Infection control documentation.
  • Maintains work assignment records/ documents and forms as needed.
  • Maintains supplies needed to provide an organized, appropriately stocked work area (i.e., orders, inventories, delivers/obtains).
  • Communicates with pharmacy as needed to maintain medication stocks.
  • Maintains assigned medical work areas (i.e., cleans equipment/carts cabinets/storage areas) provides daily cleaning.
  • Provides clerical tasks (i.e., answers phones, files, copies, faxes).
  • Provides general nursing care.
  • Assists and provides work direction, orientation and training as needed to lower-level direct staff in providing general unskilled nursing care (e.g., feeding, dressing, bathing, transferring and repositioning).
  • Attends Medical appointments as needed.
  • Attends and participates in meetings as needed.
  • Responds to patient alarms.
  • Assists in the maintaining of patient supervision levels as required.
  • Confers with the Nursing Supervisor or the Director of Nursing in her absence on nursing needs or anything pertaining to the needs of nursing personnel.
  • Mandatory Overtime is Required of this Position.
