The LPN Clinic provides appropriate medical care and counseling to the patient. Requirements

  • BLS Healthcare Provider Certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Licensed to practice as an LPN in Louisiana.

Responsibilities

  • Measures and records vital signs according to departmental policy and patient age
  • Identifies abnormal vital signs based on age and developmental level and reports findings to the appropriate medical provider
  • Assists with patient arrival to the clinic
  • Assisting in and performing patient procedures
  • Scheduling new and follow-up appointments
  • Facilitating a smooth patient exit from the clinic
  • Prepares patients for examinations, treatments, and procedures
  • Observes patients for signs and symptoms of abuse or neglect and reports concerns in accordance with policy
  • Recognizes emergencies and responds appropriately per organizational policy and procedure
  • Performs non-complex clinical procedures according to clinic policy and documented competency (e.g., simple dressing changes)
  • Provides for patient comfort with consideration of age-specific and special needs
  • Prepares, tests, cleans, and disinfects clinic equipment prior to and after patient use according to hospital policy
  • Administers prescribed medications and/or vaccinations via ordered routes in accordance with department policy
  • Collects, prepares, secures, and transports specimens for point-of-care testing or laboratory analysis
  • Performs point-of-care testing in compliance with Laboratory Point of Care Testing Manual guidelines
  • Maintains medication inventory and ensures proper storage per policy, safe use of multi-dose vials and containers, and appropriate disposal of expired medications
  • Accurate refrigerator and freezer temperature monitoring logs for medications and vaccines
  • Documents clinical tasks, procedures, and testing accurately in the patient medical record per departmental guidelines
  • Completes required paperwork, including documentation for waived testing quality control procedures
  • Maintains patient privacy by ensuring computer screens and electronic records are secure when clinical staff are not present
  • Navigates the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) to obtain laboratory and radiology results, access medical records, update patient demographic information, and schedule follow-up appointments
  • Prepares safety reports when warranted or as directed by the clinic manager or designee
  • Communicates with and keeps the clinic manager informed of clinic activities, requirements, and identified problems
  • Maintains strict patient confidentiality at all times
  • Assists with compliance related to safety, environmental, infection control, quality improvement, and regulatory standards
  • Implements standard and transmission-based precautions according to policy
  • Ensures patient safety throughout clinic visits
  • Maintains a clean and safe clinic work environment
  • Reports safety hazards or policy violations in the patient care or clinic environment to the clinic manager or designee
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives, including Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) projects and Environment of Care (EOC) rounds
  • Participates in clinic preparation by gathering clinical documentation for review by the medical provider or licensed practitioner
  • Uses office and clinical technology, including computers, printers, scanners, and fax machines
  • Scans outside correspondence into the appropriate section of the electronic medical record
  • Obtains medical records from outside facilities as requested by the medical provider
  • Answers incoming telephone calls and routes them promptly to the appropriate individual
