About The Position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) integrates technical skills and theoretical knowledge to meet the needs of patients and families. The LPN assists the health care team with preventing illness and injury, maintaining wellness, and providing comfort. The role delivers and accurately documents direct, age-specific care based on medical orders and an integrated multidisciplinary plan of care. The LPN safely administers prescribed medications and identifies incompatibilities or interactions. In the Operating Room role, the LPN primarily supports surgeries and invasive procedures for patients of all ages in perioperative and procedural areas, and may function in other areas according to competency. The LPN gathers case supplies, applies sterile technique, sets up the sterile field, supports timely room turnover, knows instruments and equipment, anticipates the sterile team's needs, and passes instruments to surgeons. The role also handles medications in a sterile environment, performs required counts, manages sharps, and may reprocess instruments and equipment. The LPN works under the direction of an RN or independent practitioner when providing direct patient care, emotional support, and problem-solving, in accordance with applicable hospital, nursing, and unit policies and procedures. Certain matters—including schedule changes, legal issues, care that deviates from the standard, and identification of educational resources—require supervisor approval or guidance. Duties may involve handling, transporting, accessing, or contacting medications, blood, blood products, and related supplies. Assignments may include all perioperative operating rooms and procedure rooms, including SPU and the Cardiac Cath room, as well as other units where competency-based nursing care or tasks are assigned. The role includes on-call responsibilities across all three shifts, weekends, and holidays. Shift and on-call rotations and schedules are established by the Director, Nurse Manager, or Clinical Coordinator and may be adjusted to meet unit requirements. Compensation range: $23.18–$35.92. Actual offers depend on relevant work experience, credentials, and qualifications.
