This position involves providing comprehensive health care to incarcerated individuals, including nursing assessments, physical examinations for injuries and illnesses, and performing nursing procedures. The role requires providing emergency first aid and CPR, responding to Code Blue or emergency situations promptly, and documenting all nursing functions according to DOC policy and procedures. Responsibilities include accurate documentation of assessments, interventions, planning, and evaluations. The nurse must be proficient in English for speaking, writing, and following instructions, and must adhere to all policies and procedures, including computer documentation. Additionally, the role involves general psychiatric nursing duties such as assessing patients for appropriate interventions, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team for client care, and monitoring/reporting changes in client condition. Communication with incarcerated individuals and off-site medical personnel is essential, as is providing training to individuals on medication and daily care, and to staff. The nurse will also assist with direct health services, including physician, dentist, optometrist, X-ray, and lab services.
