The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing care for residents of all ages in long term care (LTC), under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician. This role demonstrates knowledge of nursing principles for the resident in the relevant clinical setting, competency within the full scope of nursing expertise, and utilizes appropriate age and population specific standards. The LPN can perform testing to evaluate resident status, recognize problems, recommend solutions, and respond effectively in emergent situations. They ensure the health, comfort, and safety of residents, contribute to resident assessments, and administer medications or treatments as ordered. The position also involves providing technical support to healthcare professionals, documenting resident interactions and outcomes, and maintaining effective working relationships with residents, healthcare providers, and the public. Collaboration within an interdisciplinary care team and clear communication are essential. The LPN will counsel residents and families on prevention and treatment plans under direction and utilize resident education principles to develop self-care programs. Other related duties may be assigned.
