Under direct supervision of the registered nurse, provides direct patient care to assigned patients. This role requires knowledge of nursing theory and practice acquired through an accredited school of nursing. Experience in acute care is preferred. The position demands strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) for instructing and comforting patients and families, maintaining effective contacts with hospital personnel, and ensuring appropriate documentation. The ability to perform and plan professional nursing care, resolve complex patient care problems, and manage patients and their families during stressful situations is essential. Licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Maryland and Healthcare Provider (CPR Certification) are required (CPR not required for Hospice employees). Physical requirements include the ability to stand and walk almost constantly (up to 90% of work time) and occasionally lift and position patients (up to 50% of work time). The working environment is a normal patient care setting, which may involve exposure to excessive noise, dust, and temperature, and potentially adverse conditions due to patient care activities and exposure to communicable diseases.
