About The Position

Licensed Practical Nurse - Stony Brook Internists, UFPC. This position provides direct patient care under the supervision of the Practice. This role also performs clerical duties, acts as a receptionist, maintains medical records, and communicates with all departments. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) accurately collects clinical data on patients, demonstrates competency in performing clinical interventions, and reports abnormalities to the Medical Provider. They triage patient phone calls, troubleshoot medication management issues, and document nursing observations, interventions, and patient responses to treatment in patient records. The LPN demonstrates competency in performing venipuncture/administering shots for blood specimen collection and facilitates prompt and accurate processing and distribution of collected specimens. They ensure patients receive timely and appropriate care and facilitate internal and external referrals in collaboration with the Registered Nurse (RN). The LPN accurately performs and records vital signs, weight, height, and point-of-service blood glucose testing, promptly reporting abnormalities. They utilize appropriate techniques for collecting routine urine specimens and specimens for C/S, and appropriately instruct patients on clean catch specimens. The LPN utilizes appropriate technique in performing venipuncture to obtain blood specimens in accordance with agency procedure and verbalizes knowledge of and adherence to OSHA standards for bloodborne pathogens when handling blood and body fluids. They maintain standard precautions in patient care, monitor and replenish stock inventory in the treatment center, and prepare requisitions for routine supplies. The LPN monitors equipment integrity and promptly reports malfunctions or damaged equipment. They demonstrate competency in answering phones, patient registration, making appointments, computer data entry, and retrieval of reports. They copy, prepare, store, and maintain appropriate records, keep records of laboratory work, file laboratory reports, and prepare Lab/Diagnostic requisitions. The LPN conforms to policies and regulations governing patient rights and confidentiality and adheres to the protocol for patient flow (Reception, Registration, Labs, Escort to Provider). All other related duties are assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Practical Nursing.
  • Currently registered in New York State as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
  • Must have excellent communications skills
  • Demonstrated competency in performing venipuncture for collection of blood specimens.

  • Maintains and monitors stock inventory in the treatment center and replenishes supplies in exam rooms on a timely basis.
  • Prepares and processes requisitions for routine supplies in accordance with agency procedures.
  • Monitors the integrity of equipment and promptly reports malfunction, missing or damaged equipment to the Registered Nurse (RN) or Office Manager.
  • Demonstrates competency in answering phones, patient registration, making appointments, computer data entry and retrieval of reports.
  • Copies, prepares records, and stores and maintains appropriate records.
  • Keeps records of all laboratory work sent, files laboratory reports on client record, and prepares and processes Lab/Diagnostic requisitions.
  • Conforms to policies and regulations governing patient rights and confidentiality of information.
  • Adheres to protocol for patient flow (1. Reception, 2. Registration, 3. Labs, 4. Escort to Provider).
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned by management.
