About The Position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Pediatric ENT Clinic is responsible for providing patient care according to established standards and practices. The LPN assists physicians, nurses, and staff with the daily coordination of patient care and access. This role involves coordinating patient flow, scheduling appointments, procedures, tests, and referrals. The LPN may also serve as a preceptor for clinical staff. The position relies on guidelines, experience, and judgment to complete tasks and operates under general supervision, with the potential to lead and direct the work of others within their scope of practice.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited LPN school
  • Proficient in English, verbal and written communication skills and computer skills
  • Current Louisiana State license as LPN
  • BLS certification

Responsibilities

  • Observes, records, and reports patient's condition and reaction to drugs and/or treatments to the physician. Instructs patient/family regarding diagnostic procedures, medications, nutrition, and health/wellness issues.
  • Performs selected nursing duties, including documenting patient history, vital signs, immunizations, and allergies. Prepares, stocks, and cleans exam rooms and maintains supplies and equipment for treatment.
  • Provides complex and basic nursing care measures to all age groups. Assists the physician with patient care, clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks.
  • Responsible for appointment and referral scheduling, chart management, providing information and instructions to patients, and coordinating patient flow.
  • Prepares exam room and assists the physician during examination, treatment, and testing of patients.
  • Administers prescribed medications/treatments in accordance with nursing standards. May perform phlebotomy and EKGs and assist with flex sigmoidoscopies.
  • Observes and adheres to all departmental and hospital policies and procedures, and follows all safety, quality assurance, and infection control standards.
  • Utilizes all equipment, supplies, facilities, and resources in a prudent and efficient manner to ensure efficient departmental operations and the provision of high-quality health care services.
  • Observes and adheres to quality standards established by the department. Participates in continuous quality improvement programs to foster the provision of quality health care services by the department and hospital and ensures that all services are provided with compassion, understanding, and respect for others.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
