LPNs provide evidence-based nursing care utilizing the nursing process, principles, practices and techniques of general nursing care as determined by Standards of Practice under the direction of a Registered Nurse. They screen for sick call, administer medications, and provide first aid and basic life support to patients and employees as needed. Nurses maintain open lines of communication with security and treatment staff while providing input and feedback to assist the facility provider in organizing a treatment plan. All pertinent information is recorded into the medical record, and interactions with other departments occur as needed. The role promotes continued competence through education/certification with a focus on correctional nursing. Nurses must have the ability to work hours, days and locations as assigned, along with being capable and available to provide coverage as needed to meet institutional needs. Assignments to other duties or locations may be necessary to meet the clinical and administrative needs of the Department. This is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period. This wage position offers no state benefits.
