About The Position

Brookside Community Health Center, a licensed Community Health Center of Brigham and Women's Hospital, provides multi-disciplinary, comprehensive care in a range of medical areas including Adult, Family and Pediatric Primary Care, OB/GYN, Family Planning, Dental/Oral Surgery, Nutrition/WIC, Behavioral Health and Specialty Medicine. The center serves over 11,000 patients annually, with a majority being Spanish-speaking and socioeconomically underserved. The health center's services are guided by equity and provided by a bilingual English/Spanish medical and professional staff. Brookside is a teaching site for various health professional programs.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing Program.
  • Current LPN Licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts required.
  • Basic knowledge of patient education: interviewing and listening skills, teaching and engagement techniques, understanding of health-related conditions and information.
  • Ability to accurately perform vital signs and obtain pertinent health information including but not limited to; temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, height, and weight.
  • Ability to administer medication; routes of administration may include injections, intravenous and oral medications.
  • Knowledge and ability to perform specific procedures and tests as appropriate to the clinical setting.
  • Ability to communicate in a professional, courteous, clear and concise manner.

Nice To Haves

  • Spanish language skills preferred.
  • Basic Life Support preferred.
  • Nursing experience preferred.
  • Spanish Language strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision of a Nurse Manager or licensed clinical leader and in collaboration with other team members, provides direct and indirect patient care in accordance with the scope of practice.
  • Interviews patient about current problems, medications, allergies and reviews medical record for pertinent previous and current information.
  • Measures and records patients' vital signs, such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, or respiration.
  • Provides basic patient care or treatments, such as, dressing wounds, treating bedsores, giving enemas or douches, rubbing with alcohol, massaging, performing catheterizations, routine immunizations, and/or nebulizer treatments and visual acuity test.
  • Participates in patient treatment regimen, including administering medications (under the supervision of a physician and registered nurse).
  • Performs a variety of office responsibilities: answers phones and takes messages and performs triage within scope of licensed practical nursing practice in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Collects samples, such as blood, urine, or sputum from patients, and performs routine laboratory tests on samples.
  • Prepares patients for examinations, tests, or treatments and explains procedures.
  • Helps patients with bathing, dressing, maintaining personal hygiene, moving in bed, or standing and walking.
