About The Position

Brookside Community Health Center, a licensed Community Health Center of Brigham and Women's Hospital, provides multi-disciplinary, comprehensive care in a range of medical areas including Adult, Family and Pediatric Primary Care, OB/GYN, Family Planning, Dental/Oral Surgery, Nutrition/WIC, Behavioral Health and Specialty Medicine. The center serves over 11,000 patients annually, with a majority being Spanish-speaking and socioeconomically underserved. The health center's services are guided by equity and provided by a bilingual English/Spanish medical and professional staff. Brookside is a teaching site for various health professional programs.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing Program.
Current LPN Licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts required.
Basic knowledge of patient education: interviewing and listening skills, teaching and engagement techniques, understanding of health-related conditions and information.
Ability to accurately perform vital signs and obtain pertinent health information including but not limited to; temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, height, and weight.
Ability to administer medication; routes of administration may include injections, intravenous and oral medications.
Knowledge and ability to perform specific procedures and tests as appropriate to the clinical setting.
Ability to communicate in a professional, courteous, clear and concise manner.

Nice To Haves

Spanish language skills preferred.
Basic Life Support preferred.
Nursing experience preferred.
Spanish Language strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Under supervision of a Nurse Manager or licensed clinical leader and in collaboration with other team members, provides direct and indirect patient care in accordance with the scope of practice.
Interviews patient about current problems, medications, allergies and reviews medical record for pertinent previous and current information.
Measures and records patients' vital signs, such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, or respiration.
Provides basic patient care or treatments, such as, dressing wounds, treating bedsores, giving enemas or douches, rubbing with alcohol, massaging, performing catheterizations, routine immunizations, and/or nebulizer treatments and visual acuity test.
Participates in patient treatment regimen, including administering medications (under the supervision of a physician and registered nurse).
Performs a variety of office responsibilities: answers phones and takes messages and performs triage within scope of licensed practical nursing practice in an accurate and timely manner.
Collects samples, such as blood, urine, or sputum from patients, and performs routine laboratory tests on samples.
Prepares patients for examinations, tests, or treatments and explains procedures.
Helps patients with bathing, dressing, maintaining personal hygiene, moving in bed, or standing and walking.
