The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) prepares and rooms patients for examination by obtaining vital signs and documenting pertinent health information. They perform laboratory procedures, assist physicians with procedures and surgeries, and administer medications under physician orders. The LPN also provides basic patient education, follows through with necessary requests, and communicates with the healthcare team. Advanced clinical tasks may be performed with demonstrated competency and supervision. The role involves organizing and preparing exam rooms, stocking supplies, and maintaining equipment. Patient positioning and transporting duties are also part of the role, requiring lifting and pushing/pulling. Routine maintenance and quality monitoring of clinic equipment are expected. Participation in patient-centered initiatives, care management, and performance/quality improvement activities is required. The LPN must demonstrate knowledge of age-appropriate care and the principles of growth and development over the life span.
