About The Position

This role involves providing direct patient care in a Family Medicine setting, working cooperatively with healthcare providers and staff to achieve organizational goals. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will be responsible for patient intake, administering medications and treatments, assisting with procedures, patient education, and maintaining accurate medical records. The position requires strong communication, interpersonal skills, and adherence to all regulatory and confidentiality standards, including HIPAA.

Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited school with L.P.N. licensure in the state of Missouri.
• BLS certification required.
• Possess light typing skills and computer knowledge; demonstrate accuracy, proficiency, and efficiency.
• Effectively present information and respond to questions from patients and other individuals.
• Visually assess patient condition and communicate with patients and families with tact and professionalism.
• Possess and maintain a valid Driver's License and proof of insurance for personal vehicle used for business.
• Cognitive skills necessary to read and interpret instructions.
• Demonstrate tact, patience, and good communication skills.
• Respect and maintain confidentiality at all times.
• Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
• Ability to perform job requirements in high-demand situations.
• Ability to talk, see, hear, write, stand, walk, and kneel.
• Cognitive skills necessary to understand medical terminology, instructions, and medical records, and identify problems and offer solutions.
• Comply with the provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996.
• Follow established procedures for answering and screening appointment-related telephone calls, scheduling interpreters, and directing calls.
• Ability to move/lift patients in wheelchairs to exam tables, push/pull equipment, walk, stand, crouch, stoop, and bend.
• Safely move, kneel, crouch, stoop, reach, stand, push, pull, and be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

Nice To Haves

• Two years acute care nursing experience preferred.
• Two years office nursing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Work cooperatively with Northwest Health Services (NHS) providers, supervisors, and personnel to carry out the goals and objectives of NHS.
• Treat others respectfully, including patients, fellow employees, management, customers, vendors, and visitors.
• Place patients in exam rooms and record vital signs, past medical history, brief history of the present illness, blood pressure, weight, complete problem list, and prepare patient for provider.
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
• Assist patients with ambulation, moving onto/off of exam tables, and in and out of wheelchairs.
• Assist providers in distributing appropriate patient education materials and communicating information to patients professionally.
• Prepare exam rooms and instruments/equipment for procedures, restock rooms, and ensure instruments are clean and sterilized.
• Triage patient calls and make follow-up calls as required.
• Administer injections.
• Prepare patient record information for provider referrals and communicate significant information to other health care providers/entities.
• Draw labs as required.
• Prepare lab specimens for shipment (e.g., Pap Smears, biopsy, cultures).
• Assist physician with procedures and maintain equipment before and after procedures.
• Answer patient and hospital phone calls, assess patient telephone calls, and walk-in patients.
• Review charts for completeness for daily appointments, document refills, telephone conversations, and patient office visits in the electronic patient medical record.
• Determine needs for medical supplies, including oxygen and non-narcotic injectables, and prepare a list for ordering.
• Maintain tracking log for all lab, x-ray, and referrals.
• Attend and actively participate in clinical staff meetings, in-services, and educational programs.
• Document all assessments, treatments, procedures, and medications in the medical record, electronic or paper, during system downtime.
• Comply with all regulatory agencies, directives, standards, and regulations, and maintain patient confidentiality.
• Comply with the provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
