About The Position

This position functions as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for the Department of Health-Collier County in Immokalee. This position requires that the incumbent be able to work independently. This position is responsible for administering Pediatric and Adult vaccines and providing education and counseling to clients regarding vaccines. This includes vaccine administration and accountability for all vaccines given in the clinic and at outreach sites. This individual will be the VFC Immunization Coordinator for the Immokalee location. This position is responsible for medical/office supplies needed for their area. This position must always assure compliance with the Florida Department of Health confidentiality and securities policies. This position will assist with outreach clinics and outbreak emergencies. This position will participate in Quality Improvement (QI) projects. This employee is at risk for blood borne and air borne pathogens. Contributes to the organization’s culture of performance excellence by actively seeking to improve personal and organizational performance through measurement, analysis, knowledge management, and processes improvements and participation in performance management committees, councils, and/or workgroups. Continuously demonstrates the Department’s ICARE values. This position reports directly to the Community Health Nursing Consultant. This is a part-time position anticipated to work 24 hours per week.

Requirements

• Knowledge of childhood and adult Immunizations.
• Ability to administer Immunizations to clients of all ages.
• Ability to work independently.
• Computer skills with ability to master Florida Shots immunization program within 2 months of hire.
• Ability to work with others.
• Highly motivated.
• Licensure as a Practical Nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statute.
• Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish, both verbal and written.
• Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
• Must be able to learn and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, in English.

Responsibilities

• Administers Immunizations to clients in both clinical and outreach settings in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, utilizing the guidelines of the Florida Department of Health-Collier County guidebook, policies and procedures of the Collier County Health Department, and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (AICP).
• Utilizes Department of Health, Health Management System (HMS) and State Immunization Registry (FloridaShots) to document and certify (when applicable) services provided.
• Provides education and counseling regarding vaccines to parents/guardians, private providers, and School Nurses/staff.
• Maintains vaccine inventory and accountability by logging a daily, monthly, and quarterly vaccine inventory count. Unusable vaccine report written for every vaccine wasted, expired, drawn up but not given.
• Provides accurate onsite and outreach vaccine activity reports to supervisor.
• Participates in Quality Improvement (QI) projects.
• Assists with outreach clinics and outbreak emergencies.
• Participates on the Collier County Adult/Pediatric Immunization Coalition.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
