About The Position

The Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet advances education, workforce development, and economic opportunity across the Commonwealth. The Cabinet provides education and training programs, employment and reemployment services, unemployment insurance, and disability determination services to help Kentuckians gain skills, find work, and maintain economic stability. It partners with education providers, workforce boards, and employers to align training with labor market needs and oversees labor programs that promote fair and safe workplaces. The Office of Vocational Rehabilitation empowers individuals with disabilities to maximize employment, achieve economic self-sufficiency and independence, and to contribute back to society. We also help businesses and employers recruit, retain, and accommodate employees with disabilities. We are seeking a Licensed Practical Nurses at the Carl D. Perkins Vocational Training Center to provide care of the ill, injured, or infirm under the direction of a registered nurse or licensed physician. This position will be assigned to 2nd shift.

Requirements

  • Must be licensed in Kentucky as a practical nurse or must have a valid work permit issued by the Kentucky Board of Nursing.
  • Must maintain any required licensure (s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.
  • Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Perform nursing practice under the direction of a registered nurse or physician.
  • Perform acts requiring knowledge of skills such as are taught or acquired in approved schools for practical nursing.
  • Observe and care for the ill, injured or infirmed within scope of his/her education and clinical skills.
  • Collect nursing assessment data.
  • Give counsel and apply procedures to safeguard life and health.
  • Administer medication and treatment as prescribed.
  • Explain medication purpose, dosage, and possible side effects to patients.
  • Teach and delegate to others the performance of nursing care activities.
  • Supervise licensed practical nurse applicants and unlicensed assistive personnel in the performance of patient care activities.
  • Communicate with patients’ family members as listed on their confidentiality release form.
  • Closely monitor the behavior of potentially suicidal patients.
  • Participate in drills for and responds to facility emergencies.
  • Make essential entries on essential records; Accept and account for drugs and related paraphernalia.
  • Schedule patient's activities and appointments.
  • Attend in-service training.
  • Perform simple maintenance on medical treatment equipment.
  • Report unusual incidents with staff or patient’s supervisor.
  • Serve on committees.
  • Follow established policies and procedures of employing facility and agency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
