About The Position

This role involves assisting Registered Nurses (RNs) in patient and family care by completing assigned tasks within the scope of an LPN in New York State and NYU Langone Health policy. The FGP LPN will provide competent, safe, and compassionate care, understanding the challenges patients face with health maintenance, illness, hospitalization, and procedures. Key duties include taking vital signs, recording medical history, and performing specialized tasks such as phlebotomy, point-of-care testing (finger stick with certification), and electrocardiograms.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an LPN program.
  • Current NYS OP LPN licensure and registration.
  • Ability to complete multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to thrive in a team work environment that pursues a positive patient care experience.
  • Physical stamina, manual dexterity, visual and aural acuity to perform responsibilities.
  • Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • BLS certification preferred.
  • Experience preferred in Urology, Endocrinology, Internal Medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in patient-centered quality and performance improvement programs.
  • Maintains current LPN knowledge and competence.
  • Supports the missions, philosophy, standards, goals, and objectives of NYULH.
  • Collects patient healthcare data systematically using appropriate assessment techniques.
  • Enforces adherence to NYULH and FGP policies and procedures, including HIPAA, Compliance, and Human Resources.
  • Participates in coordinating unit activities to provide patient care in a healing, humane, and caring environment.
  • Engages in self-assessment and professional growth activities.
  • Obtains patient vital signs, weights, and EKGs; performs blood collection/phlebotomy as needed.
  • Administers medications, including injections, according to clinical guidelines and scope of practice.
  • Assists with patient flow to and from exam rooms and treatment areas, including escorting patients.
  • Ensures charts are available with relevant information for physician review.
  • Maintains awareness of current patient-centered evidence-based practices and applies research data.
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team and promotes collegial relationships.
  • Assists patients and communicates with licensed providers for prescription renewals.
  • Performs patient-related functions as directed by a Licensed Provider and/or RN, including medication administration, vaccinations, injections, patch placement, and assisting with procedures.
  • Communicates directly with patients regarding their care using appropriate terminology and a respectful manner.
  • Interacts efficiently with medical staff and professionally with support staff.
  • Serves as a support and resource for nursing staff and providers.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of NYUMC Service Standards and incorporates them into responsibilities.
  • Functions as a respectful member of the healthcare team.
  • Ensures clinical compliance with Patient Safety initiatives and reporting.
  • Ensures clinical in-baskets are maintained and encounters are closed in a timely manner.
  • Considers the needs and behaviors of specific patient age and cultural groups in all patient care activities.
  • Completes annual competencies (e.g., Fire Safety, Hazardous Waste, Medsled, HIPAA compliance).
  • Serves as an NYU Langone Health Faculty Group Practice Brand Ambassador by upholding the NYULH Mission, vision, and values.
  • Promotes excellence in the patient experience during every encounter.

  • Proactively anticipates patient needs and participates in service recovery using the LEARN model (Listen, Empathize, Apologize, Resolve, Notify), escalating as appropriate.
  • Shares ideas for improving patient experience and access with leadership.
  • Partners with Patient Access Center and Central Billing Office teams to support collaboration and promote a positive patient experience.
  • Ensures practice staff are fully versed in Access Agreement gold standard principles.
