CENTRAL VIRGINIA HEALTH SERVICES INCScottsville, VA
Onsite

About The Position

To support the delivery of medical services through the direct provision of medical care by performing basic nursing tasks within the scope of Licensed Practical Nursing or Registered Nursing practice as outlined by the Virginia Nurse Practice Act. To provide nursing services and to aid in the mentoring of medical assistants, RN’s, and LPN’s. The role includes performing tasks pertinent to the age of the patient (infancy to geriatric), maintaining accurate inventory of medical supplies, assisting in the selection of division equipment and supplies, and performing all nursing procedures as directed by the clinician according to the guidelines in the Nursing Procedure Manual. The position also involves assisting in quality assurance and control, supporting a team-based approach to patient-centered medical care, participating in continuing education, and assisting in the efficient flow of patients. A significant aspect of the role involves telephone triage, where the nurse assesses patient problems over the phone, requiring good clinical judgment, careful listening, and critical thinking. This includes interpreting subtle indications in the patient's tone of voice, asking appropriate questions, and developing an assessment based on the conversation. The triage nurse must be able to handle a wide spectrum of medical conditions and make decisions on whether a patient needs care, what kind of care, and direct them to the appropriate resource, whether it's self-care advice, a primary care physician, an appointment, or emergency assistance. The role requires exercising skill and care in giving advice, ensuring the appropriate standard of care, and documenting all interactions. The nurse is expected to be considerate, patient, calm, and communicate in a caring manner. Critical analysis skills are needed to assess and diagnose patient conditions. The nurse must also maintain accurate records of all calls and corresponding details, report to providers when necessary, and provide essential patient education. Follow-up calls to patients to report their condition and document improvements or provide further directions are also part of the duties.
