Provides direct patient care under the direction of a registered nurse, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, or physician. This role contributes to the assessment of patients by collecting data for review, administers medications, and observes patients for adverse reactions. The Licensed Practical Nurse evaluates learning needs of patients and families and provides education based on age, culture, and willingness to learn. They perform job duties in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act and may triage patients, referring to a physician, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant if needed. This role may also relay information to patients, carry out physician orders as they pertain to patient needs, perform administrative/clerical duties in support of the assigned clinical department, and perform plan of care interventions.
