Licensed Practical Nurse: Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice
About The Position
The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) protects the public by preparing court-involved youth to be successful citizens. DJJ is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth, strengthening both families and communities within the Commonwealth. We are hiring a Licensed Practical Nurse to provide quality nursing care to residents within Bon Air Juvenile Correction Center under the supervision of a RN, NP or MD. Evaluates residents' requests for medical services through the use of established nursing protocols. The LPN consults with the RN as needed when using nursing protocols and standing orders. Responds to medical emergencies and practices within the scope of LPN licensure as is defined by the VA Board of Nursing and the prevailing community Standards of practice.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing Program in Virginia or compact state.
- Basic knowledge of electronic record keeping.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of practice, procedures and techniques of nursing care, emergency procedures and medication administration.
- Demonstrates the ability to understand and utilize established nursing protocols and standing orders.
- Demonstrates ability to follow through with direct care patients as indicated.
- Ability to transcribe and implement physician's standing orders correctly and fully.
- Demonstrates knowledge of adolescent growth and development.
Nice To Haves
- CPR/BLS certification.
- Experience providing clinical care in a secure environment, ambulatory care, or with pediatrics and adolescent patients.
