The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in a Pediatric Clinic is responsible for preparing patients for examinations and procedures, collecting and documenting patient data, and maintaining patient charts. The LPN assists during treatments, administers injections and medications, and reviews physician's orders and follow-up needs with patients. They document services provided, perform patient treatments as ordered, and observe patients, reporting any adverse reactions to the Registered Nurse (RN). The LPN also acts as a liaison for clinic leadership, disseminating information to staff, and assisting with clinic projects and assignments. This may include participation in nursing committees, initiatives, and assisting with the revision and implementation of policies and procedures. The role may involve providing feedback for staff evaluations and assisting with survey preparation. Additionally, the LPN monitors compliance with clinic initiatives such as JCAHO, Baldrige, policies & procedures, and performance improvement. They administer specified medications as allowed by policy, licensure, and State Practice Act, reinforce patient teaching, and provide basic healthcare instruction to families. Other duties include performing EKGs, simple lab tests, venipuncture, ordering supplies, and participating in Quality Assurance & Improvement (QA & I).
