Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN or LVN) - Evening Shift
About The Position
NaphCare is hiring an evening-shift Licensed Practical Nurse to provide healthcare to individuals incarcerated at the Sarasota County Jail in Sarasota, Florida. The nurse works alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals in a controlled environment where security is a priority. The role includes assessing patients, administering medication, managing chronic illnesses, and responding to emergencies. New graduates are encouraged to apply, and training in correctional healthcare is provided. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 6:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. The position contributes to NaphCare’s mission of providing quality healthcare that protects the rights, dignity, and health of its patient population.
Requirements
- Graduate from a Licensed Practical Nursing program.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Active state certification as a Licensed Vocational Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.
- Active BLS CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of proprietary and/or confidential information.
- Integrity and professionalism, and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with facility correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
- Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening.
- Ability to stand for long periods; lift and move patients weighing up to 50 pounds; bend, squat, reach, push, pull, and walk significant distances; and perform physically demanding tasks such as CPR while maintaining balance and endurance throughout a shift.
Responsibilities
- Perform patient assessments and interview patients about current health problems and medication history.
- Take vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, and weight.
- Provide wound care, including cleaning and bandaging injured areas.
- Administer medications, including injections, and monitor patients’ reactions to medication.
- Maintain medical records, including entering information into the TechCare electronic health record.
- Observe patients’ physical and mental health status.
- Provide emergency first aid.
- Provide patient education and discharge or release planning.
