Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN or LVN)
About The Position
NaphCare is hiring LPNs to join their team of medical professionals in New Brunswick, New Jersey. This role involves managing all aspects of healthcare for individuals incarcerated in the Middlesex County Jail. This is a part-time position, specifically for weekend evenings. Pay rates vary based on shift, site needs, and experience, ranging from $31.16 to $32.80 per hour. Shift and hours can vary based on coverage needs and will be discussed during the interview. As a Correctional Nurse, you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals, providing care in a controlled environment where security is a top priority. Duties include performing physical assessments, administering medications, managing chronic illnesses, and responding to emergencies. This unique position offers the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of a diverse patient population with complex medical needs. New graduates are encouraged to apply as training in correctional healthcare will be provided.
Requirements
- Graduate from a Licensed Practical Nursing program
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Actively state-certified as a Licensed Vocational Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse
- Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (American Heart Association preferred)
- Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
- Display integrity, professionalism and be able to adhere to a Code of Conduct
- Comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening
- Ability to stand for long periods
- Ability to lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
- Ability to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks like CPR
- Maintain good balance and endurance throughout a shift
Responsibilities
- Performing patient assessments
- Interviewing patients about current health problems and medication history
- Taking vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, and weight
- Providing wound care, including cleaning and bandaging injured areas
- Administering medication, including injections and monitoring reactions
- Maintaining medical records, including entering information into the electronic health record (TechCare)
- Observing patient health and mental health status
- Providing emergency first aid
- Providing patient education and discharge/release planning
