About The Position

BioLife Plasma Services is seeking a Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) to support plasma center operations. In this role, you will determine donor eligibility to donate plasma, manage donor adverse events, review laboratory test results, and notify donors of unsuitable test results. You will work under the guidance of the Center Manager for operational matters and the Center Physician for medical issues. Familiarity with plasma collection industry regulations or a manufacturing environment is expected. You will also support environmental, health, and safety (EHS) initiatives at the center level.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements.
  • Currently licensed or certified as an LPN or LVN in the state where responsibilities will be assigned.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification.
  • Fulfill state requirements for basic IV therapy in the state of licensure.
  • Satisfactorily complete the FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
  • Two years in a clinical or hospital setting.

Responsibilities

  • Determine donor eligibility, including managing informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self-exclusion, medical history interviews, acceptance requirements, physical examinations, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
  • Evaluate donor reactions occurring at the facility according to SOPs.
  • Follow SOPs for medical emergencies, including the development of Center Physician's standing orders and donor transport to emergency care facilities.
  • Consult with the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for unacceptable findings to donors or guidance on medical/technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility.
  • Support employee Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs.
  • Manage employee incidents and determine if further evaluation by occupational health/ER is needed.
  • Refer to EHS guidance regarding employee incidents.
  • Act as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations related to pandemic threats as indicated by EHS or Medical Affairs.
