About The Position

The Licensed Practical Nurse provides skilled technical nursing care to patients according to predefined standards and a plan of care established by a Nurse Practitioner or Physician. Assumes other duties as assigned. The Licensed Practical Nurse provides care utilizing the MS Nurse Practice Act, the CDC Guidelines for Infection Control, and Singing River Health System Departments of Nursing Plan for Provision of Care, Treatment and Services. Expectation is for all performed duties to be in accordance with Singing River Health System procedures and policies, accreditation organization, and governing guidance and publications for health care employees. This role involves work that is moderately active, requiring movement throughout the facility and potentially to other locations within the SRHS service area. It involves exerting minimal force to move objects and using repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The role requires good hearing, close visual acuity, and the ability to adjust focus. The nurse must be able to be active for extended periods without undue fatigue and work assigned schedules, which may include changes for hospital needs. Mentally, the role demands keen assessment and decision-making abilities, superior communication skills (written and verbal), emotional stability for high-stress situations, and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Attention to detail and multitasking in complex situations are essential, as is the ability to maintain collaborative working relationships. Special demands include superior customer service skills, professional etiquette, proficient computer and office technology skills, and the ability to demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment for patients of all ages.

Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited School of Nursing program for Licensed Practical Nursing.
  • Current State of Mississippi licensed as an LPN required.
  • Required to complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer.
  • Must have de-escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days); must have appropriate level of de-escalation training.
  • 6 months nursing experience preferred.
  • Must be able to work schedules assigned with the understanding that changes may be instituted according to the needs of the hospital for off days, shifts or weekends.
  • Must demonstrate keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making abilities.
  • Must demonstrate superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone.
  • Must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels.
  • Must demonstrate ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations is required.
  • Must have the ability to maintain collaborative and respectable working relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations.
  • Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette.
  • Must possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook and Word.
