About The Position

The Telemetry Unit at UAB St. Vincent's East is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide care to patients requiring telemetry monitoring. This 18-bed unit specializes in patients with diagnoses or co-morbidities that warrant telemetry monitoring. Nurses on this unit will develop skills in detecting medical or cardiovascular issues, communicating with providers, and discovering interventions to prevent emergent situations. Advanced technology in the form of telemetry nursing support is utilized to help bedside staff treat patients with the highest level of care.

Requirements

• Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.
• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Graduate from an accredited Practical Nursing program or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

• Provide care to patients under the direction of a registered nurse or physician, functioning within scope of license.
• Contribute to the assessment of patients and assure the well-being of patients.
• Administer medications and observe patients for adverse reactions to medications or treatments.
• Perform laboratory tests and therapeutic services.
• Educate patients/families about disease treatment plan including self care post discharge, holistic health needs, available resources and follow up care.
• Assessments, rhythm interpretations, lab value analyses, patient and family education, wound care, IV management, and medication administration and management.
