Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN or LVN)
About The Position
NaphCare is hiring LPNs to join their team of medical professionals in Dayton, OH. In this role, you will manage all aspects of healthcare for individuals incarcerated in the Montgomery County Jail. As a Correctional Nurse, you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide care to the individuals in residence. This is a unique position where you can make a difference to a diverse population of patients with complex medical needs. New graduates are encouraged to apply, as training in correctional healthcare will be provided. The days are never dull, and security is the top priority in this controlled environment. Your duties will include performing physical assessments, administering medications, managing chronic illnesses, and responding to emergencies.
Requirements
- Graduate from a Licensed Practical Nursing program
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Actively state-certified as a Licensed Vocational Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse
- Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (American Heart Association preferred)
- Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
- Display integrity, professionalism and be able to adhere to a Code of Conduct
- Comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening
- Ability to stand for long periods
- Ability to lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
- Ability to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, and walk significant distances
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks like CPR
- Good balance and endurance throughout a shift

Responsibilities
- Performing patient assessments
- Interviewing patients about current health problems and medication history
- Taking vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, and weight
- Providing wound care, including cleaning and bandaging injured areas
- Administering medication, including injections, and monitoring reactions
- Maintaining medical records, including entering information into the electronic health record (TechCare)
- Observing patient health and mental health status
- Providing emergency first aid
- Providing patient education and discharge/release planning
