About The Position

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is seeking a part-time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for their West Chester Primary Care office. This position involves 20 hours per week, with shifts determined by operational needs. The LPN will perform routine nursing care under the direction of a registered nurse, nurse practitioner, or physician, participating in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. The role also includes supporting office operations with administrative duties and ensuring compliance with health system standards and policies. The LPN will be administratively responsible to the Site Manager and Ambulatory Nursing Director for nursing practice issues and may be required to rotate to other Care Network sites within the designated cluster.

Requirements

  • Licensed Practical Nursing Program - Required
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) (New Jersey) - New Jersey State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) - issued through an organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross). - upon hire - Required
  • Computer Competency: Basic use of a computer (mouse, keyboard, printer, USB ports). Basic use of Microsoft Office (Word processing, spreadsheets, presentations and Skype). Web browsing, intranet search, document access. Use of shared network file space. Basic use of patient facing technology. (e.g. IV pumps, point of care devices, CR monitors). Navigation and use of clinical communication systems.
  • Information Literacy: Determines the nature and extent of clinical information needed and uses the appropriate technology to access it. Accesses needed information effectively and efficiently. Evaluates information and its sources critically and appropriately incorporates it into clinical practice. Evaluates outcomes of the use of information.
  • Information Management Literacy: Navigation of the electronic health record system. Ability to locate and review specific patient data in various clinical information systems. Effectively uses clinical decision support tools. Understands policies and procedures, confidentiality, security, and privacy regulations regarding the use of clinical information systems. Ability to collect clinical data using quality improvement tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of LPN and pediatric experience is preferred.
  • At least two (2) years experience in the medical field - Preferred
  • Pediatric experience - Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide and document direct nursing care of assigned patients under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician.
  • Assist other health care personnel in the delivery of patient care.
  • Participate in maintaining the environment of care including equipment and other material resources.
  • Participate in own professional development by maintaining required competencies and attending educational offerings.
  • Support the development of other staff and formal learners.
  • Participate in the identification of clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities and assists in performance improvement activities.
  • Administer medications within scope of practice and organizational standards, provided specific educational and order requirements are met.
  • Support clinical activities related to nursing and clinic flow and make recommendations to manager for improvement in quality and effectiveness of nursing care given.
  • Demonstrate commitment to patient safety by speaking up about safety issues and changing nursing practices to enhance safety.
  • Share errors through system reporting mechanisms, and demonstrates shared accountability for safe practices.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
