About The Position

The Licensed Practical Nurse performs selected nursing acts in the care of the ill, injured, or infirm patient under the direction of a registered nurse. Under the direction of the registered nurse, provides nursing care in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures. This LPN functions as unit coordinator for the department unit.

Requirements

  • Technical Diploma/Certificate Practical Nursing
  • Completion of IV Therapy Certification
  • Licensed Practical Nurse State of Florida or eligible compact state Upon Hire
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire
  • National Institutes Of Health Stroke Scale (NIH) within 90 Days
  • ACLS Provider (ACLS) American Heart Association within 1 Year
  • CPI within 90 Days
  • Demonstrated proficiency in acute care nursing, knowledge, and skills.
  • Must have superior multi-tasking and prioritizing skills, as well as organizational skills.
  • IV therapy certification skill complete.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction and supervision of the RN assesses and diagnoses patient and family needs to provide quality care to assigned patients.
  • Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to implement medical plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient.
  • Maintains up to date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team, to ensure quality care.
  • Operates order communication system.
  • Uses computer to enter orders.
  • Accurately transcribes physician orders according to hospital policy and procedures.
  • Follows the process for patient transfer and/or discharge.
  • Ensures the necessary supplies and services are ordered and obtained for the unit.
  • Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure.
  • Must have IV therapy certification and may initiate the following only under direct supervision of an RN or physician: mixing and hanging of primary and secondary IV solutions, IV pushes to include narcotics, except heparin flushes and saline flushes which do not have to be under direct supervision of RN.
  • LPN’s in the Emergency Department may not give antiarrhythmic medications or medicate patients for conscious sedation procedures.
  • Evaluates the identified problems, care provided, and patient’s responses are reassessed to meet patient and family needs and assure overall quality of care delivered.
  • Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure.
