JOB TYPE Classification: Non Exempt Supervises Positions: No JOB SUMMARY The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct patient care and clinical support to oncology patients under the direction or supervision of a Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP) or Registered Nurse (RN), consistent with Virginia Board of Nursing regulations and UVA Health policies.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program.
  • Current Virginia LPN license.
  • BLS certification (AHA).
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize quickly.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in written form

Nice To Haves

  • Oncology or infusion experience.
  • Chemotherapy/biotherapy competency validation.
  • Epic experience

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and document vital signs, focused assessments, and symptom screening in Epic.
  • Prepare patients for provider visits, procedures, and treatments.
  • Perform peripheral and port lab draws
  • Recognize, document, and escalate abnormal findings to RN/provider.
  • Assist with infusion workflows and patient flow.
  • Perform venipuncture and maintain peripheral IV access per competency.
  • Administer approved medications per scope and UVA policy.
  • Perform phlebotomy and specimen collection per policy
  • Provide compassionate, patient-centered support
  • Reinforce treatment plans and patient education
  • Willing to share responsibilities, support their teammates, and work together to achieve common goals.
  • Organizes and prioritizes daily work assignments to support patient needs, the interdisciplinary team, and operational efficiency.
  • Demonstrates teamwork in the delivery of patient care.
  • Recognizes the importance of time sensitive issues.
  • Uses knowledge and skills acquired through training and validation
  • Provides clinical support under the supervision of a licensed practitioner.
  • Documents and capture charges for clinical support services rendered during the visit.
  • Performs administrative support responsibilities as directed by a Clinic Leader.
