About The Position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) contributes to patient assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation under the supervision of registered nurses. The LPN provides direction and guidance in patient education and activities consistent with their education and demonstrated competencies. The role serves patients in a correctional healthcare setting, including in the Health Care Unit and housing units, and supports compassionate, high-quality care for underserved and vulnerable patients. The position is 0.75 FTE, working five 6-hour shifts per week from 1800 to 0030, with a weekend and holiday rotation. Self-scheduling options are available. This position is available only to people who reside in the United States.

Requirements

Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
Have and maintain current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse in the state of employment.
Must be able to obtain and maintain CPR certification.
Must reside in the United States.

Nice To Haves

A minimum of one year of clinic experience is preferred.
IV therapy certification, for administering IV therapy.

Responsibilities

Under RN supervision, assess patients’ physical, psychological, and social dimensions in the Health Care Unit and housing units, contribute to individualized treatment planning, and consult with RNs and staff as needed.
Implement treatment programs directed by Health Care Practitioners, administer medications (including IV therapy if certified), and perform diagnostic tests according to established protocols and procedures.
Participate in controlled substance counts at the beginning of each shift.
Follow safety techniques, procedures, and standard precautions while responding to codes or health emergencies within standard guidelines.
Assist with medical or minor surgical procedures.
Implement nutrition and therapeutic diet plans.
Document nursing encounters using SOAP charting and communicate effectively with nursing staff, physicians, and other relevant personnel.
Attend mandatory staff meetings and training sessions, and follow policies and procedures while providing patient care.
Participate in weekend and holiday rotations.
