About The Position

The primary function of this position under the SR RN Supervisor is to administer immunizations to the community and to serve as back up in TB, refugee and Ryan White clinics and perform laboratory services as needed. The OPS LPN will primarily work administering immunizations in a busy clinic setting and elsewhere as assigned. Clinic clients who receive these services include but are not limited to adults, adolescents and children with diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Requirements

  • A Florida State Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license is required for this position.
  • A vehicle and valid Florida driver’s license are required.
  • Ability to give injections.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and experience with maintaining client confidentiality.
  • Must be willing to accept this salary if offered the position.
  • Must be willing to physically come in the office to perform the duties & responsibilities of the positions.
  • Must have current authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
  • Must have Florida state LPN license.
  • All Florida Department of Health positions require the incumbent to be able to learn and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, in English.

Responsibilities

  • Administer immunizations to the community.
  • Serve as back up in TB, refugee and Ryan White clinics.
  • Perform laboratory services as needed.
  • Primarily work administering immunizations in a busy clinic setting and elsewhere as assigned.
  • Obtain basic medical history from clients or their guardian including allergies.
  • Receive incoming clinical/immunization records and upload them to HMS.
  • Perform transfers of immunization records into Florida Shots.
  • Accurately enter all required information into Florida Shots in a timely manner.
  • Select appropriate immunization by utilizing correct program components (VFC, VFA, Travel, Private Pay, Refugee).
  • Manage Vaccine inventory according to Florida Department of Health guidelines.
  • Responsible for ordering, receiving, and maintaining immunization inventories for all County Health Department programs.
  • Ensure vaccine efficiency through appropriate vaccine storage and handling of all vaccines to include refrigerator and freezer temperature readings and submit into FL Shots through Verilert.
  • Observe and report adverse reactions to immunizations in the VAERS system.
  • Assist with backup for other clinic services in the CHD, which may include lab specimen collection, proper handling of specimens (labeling, packaging for transport), performing fingerstick hemoglobin and blood sugar screenings, performing venipuncture for blood tests, collecting and testing urine specimens for a variety of standard laboratory testing and analysis.
  • Input client data into HMS Lab module; operate routine laboratory equipment.
  • Complete specimen collections for Specialty Lab, including HIV follow up, as well as HIV Test & Treat.
  • Prepare lab specimens for shipment and transportation.
  • Clean and stock exam rooms.
  • Clean instruments and equipment; autoclave instruments as necessary.
  • Assist School Health Nurse with outreach immunization programs.
  • Complete People First time sheet, work activity reports (EARs) entry within the required time frame.
  • Notify supervisor with phone call in the event of any tardiness or absence.
  • Complete all mandatory or assigned training within the required time frame including staff meetings.
  • Subject to Emergency Duty in the event of a natural disaster.
  • Perform other job-related duties as delegated by the nursing supervisor.
