About The Position

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join their team at Heiltsuk Hospital in Bella Bella, BC. This role involves performing the full scope of practical nursing functions for clients with predictable outcomes, including assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation of client care. The LPN will also collaborate with an interdisciplinary care team and assist Registered Nurses with clients requiring a higher level of care. The position requires maintaining and advancing clinical competence according to BCCNM standards. Bella Bella is a remote island community known for its natural beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities. Heiltsuk Hospital provides acute care, long-term care, emergency services, laboratory and diagnostic imaging, telehealth, and mental health and substance use services. The healthcare team is diverse, including physicians, RNs, LPNs, PCAs, technologists, and pharmacy staff. Heiltsuk Hospital is unique as it is located on a reserve and is one of the only provincial hospitals in Canada situated on a reserve.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform full scope of practical nursing functions as outlined by BCCNM for clients with predictable outcomes within a designated area of specialty.
  • Assess, plan, implement, evaluate and document client care.
  • Provide support to clients and their families.
  • Work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary care team.
  • Under general supervision, assist the Registered Nurse in caring for clients with unpredictable outcomes or where the acuity or complexity of care requires an advanced level of knowledge and skill beyond the scope of practice for Licensed Practical Nurses.
  • Maintain and advance clinical competence pursuant to the standards of practice of BCCNM.
