About The Position

Licensed Practical Nurse, LPN responsible for direct nursing care of assigned patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. This role involves participating in patient assessments, collaborating on care plans, administering medications, and ensuring a safe environment. The LPN will adjust care based on age-specific needs, maintain accurate patient records, and participate in performance improvement activities. Additionally, the role requires supporting patients' cultural and spiritual beliefs, contributing to cost containment, and demonstrating responsibility for customer satisfaction and hospital efficiency.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent required
  • Current licensure in North Carolina as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Compact state licensure
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking the English language
  • Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills
  • Verbal and written skills required
  • Has knowledge of the age-specific physiological and psychosocial needs of the patients typically served
  • Speech and auditory acuity for communication of patient needs
  • Visual acuity for observation of patients
  • Long periods of standing, walking, bending, and lifting
  • May involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material
  • Must be able to lift 35 pounds
  • BLS - American Heart Association

Responsibilities

  • Participates in assessment of patient
  • Collaborates with departmental and interdisciplinary groups in developing the patient plan of care
  • Follows patient’s plan of care while participating in the direct nursing care to assigned patients
  • Adjusts care based upon age-specific physiological needs of patients as directed by the Registered Nurse or other authorized person(s)
  • Maintains an accurate and relevant record of patient care
  • Administers medication as ordered by physician
  • Facilitates a safe environment
  • Recognizes life-threatening situations and responds appropriately
  • Maintains required competencies
  • Participates in Performance Improvement activities and monitors the quality of care
  • Establishes collaborative interpersonal relationships with other Health System staff
  • Supports patients in the practice of their cultural and spiritual beliefs within limits of the medical regimen
  • Actively participates in cost containment and completes accurate charging for patient services
  • Actively demonstrates responsibility concerning customer satisfaction, patient throughput and hospital functional capacity through compliance with the Hospital Innovation Project (HIP), if applicable
  • Other duties as assigned
