About The Position
The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) is hiring Licensed Practical Nurses for immediate openings at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women (Evergreen) in York, NE. This role involves providing patient care within a correctional institution setting, including administering medications, transcribing and carrying out doctor's orders, assessing patients, triaging, responding to emergencies, and assisting with inventory and ordering of supplies and medications. The NDCS employs nearly 2,300 team members and operates institutions statewide, focusing on inmate programming, education, healthcare, and re-entry services. The department is accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA) and emphasizes values of integrity, respect, compassion, growth, and excellence.
Requirements
- A current license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Nebraska or authority based on the Nurse Licensure Compact to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Nebraska is required.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. with assistance.
- Will complete four to eight weeks of on the job training.
- Must submit to background security check.
- Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the pre-employment medical examination and a drug test.
- Must successfully complete the fully paid NDCS Pre-service Training Program.
Responsibilities
- Perform patient care in a clinic or hospital setting in a correctional institution.
- Administer medications, transcribe and carry out doctor's orders.
- Assess patients utilizing protocols and triage.
- Respond to emergencies.
- Assist in moving inmate patients.
- Assist with inventory and ordering of supplies and medications.
