Summary Statement The LPN, a Licensed Practical Nurse, is sometimes referred to as a vocational nurse. LPNs are health care providers who are tasked with providing direct care to their patients. They are responsible in providing to the daily basic needs of patients including administering medication and treatments and maintain close communication with their supervisors, the RNs. If patients have minor wounds, LPNs perform wound cleaning and dressing changes. LPNs will check patients' hydration and food intake. They assist patients with hygiene and ADLs.
