About The Position

NiteLines USA is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to provide contract support services at Northeast Florida State Hospital, a 24/7 State of Florida Psychiatric Hospital. This facility has 613 beds and provides inpatient psychiatric care for adults 18 and older who have been committed by the state or through the criminal justice system. The hospital serves clients whose needs cannot be met through community-based programs and provides evaluation, assessment, and treatment for individuals deemed not guilty by reason of insanity or incompetent to proceed with criminal proceedings. The role involves working 12-hour shifts, 3 days a week, with the possibility of 16-hour shifts as needed. Candidates will also need to complete a two-week orientation and one week of shadowing.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire.
  • Must hold unencumbered licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • Must be CPR certified, or able to complete training.
  • Must be able to complete full orientation at time of hire.
  • Must be able to fulfill physical requirements of position including ability to lift and carry 20 lbs., remain alert while on duty, and work 16-hour shifts on occasion.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of nursing experience, strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assess resident complaints and determine action, notifying supervisor when necessary.
  • Admit and transfer residents to and from other units or outside sources.
  • Administer oral and/or injectable medication and controlled medications in accordance with facility policy, and within their scope of practice as defined by Florida law.
  • Observe for side effects or adverse effects to medication and report to assigned supervisor, or further assessment and treatment.
  • Prepare paperwork as required for consults within facility and outside appointments.
  • Coordinate residents’ appointments with unit staff to ensure medications are appropriately timed as need for resident movement to and from the unit.
  • Provide emergency medical/psychiatric treatment within scope of practice as defined by facility and Florida law and notifying supervisor for further assistance.
  • Complete incident reports factually and objectively, within the appropriate time frame as defined by the facility.
  • Complete progress notes on resident care within the appropriate time frame as defined by the facility.
  • Advocate for residents’ recovery and safety.
  • Maintain appropriate and professional behavior during interactions with residents’, supervisors, and other staff members.
  • Display professionalism throughout employment including, but not limited to, arriving to work on time, maintaining an accurate timesheet, and maintaining professional appearance as defined by facility policy.
