LPN / Licensed Practical Nurse - FT (Straight Nights)
About The Position
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing care for residents of all ages in long term care, under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician. This role demonstrates knowledge of nursing principles for the resident in the relevant clinical setting, and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise/knowledge. The LPN utilizes appropriate age and population specific standards related to the physical and psychosocial needs of the resident as per care plan. They possess the ability to perform testing to evaluate data reflective of the resident's status and to provide the care needed. The LPN demonstrates ability to recognize problems, recommend solutions and respond effectively to assist in an emergent situation. They ensure the health, comfort and safety of residents, and contribute to the assessment of residents. The LPN administers medications or treatments as ordered and provides technical support to healthcare professionals as needed. They document resident interactions and the outcomes related to resident care, medication, behavior, activity, and dietary. The role requires skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with residents, health care providers, and the public. The LPN must be able to work effectively with professional and supportive personnel as a member of an interdisciplinary care team. They must be able to communicate clearly and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. The LPN counsels residents, family members and/or resident advocates, under the direction of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider or physician on prevention and treatment plans. They possess knowledge of resident education principles to develop a self-care program. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited practical nursing program as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
- Must have attended a pre-licensure nursing program that included supervised clinical experience across the life span as part of the curriculum or have had a minimum of 400 hours of experience as LPN at another facility.
- Currently holds an unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license with State Nursing board and/or possess multi-state licensure privileges.
- Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
- Completes required annual continuing education units (CEU) and competency training requirements of the department and facility.
Nice To Haves
- Associate degree in practical nursing is preferred.
- If position requires IV therapy/management skills, the following is required in North Dakota: graduation from a Board approved AASPN program where IV therapy is part of the curriculum or completion of an IV Therapy course approved by the North Dakota Board of Nursing.
