About The Position

The Licensed Practical Nurse provides patient care under the direction of a registered nurse or physician and works within the scope of the LPN license. The role contributes to patient assessment and well-being, administers medications and monitors patients for adverse reactions, performs laboratory tests and therapeutic services, and educates patients and families about treatment plans, post-discharge self-care, holistic health needs, available resources, and follow-up care. This is a full-time day position in the 6 East – Med Surg department at UAB St. Vincent’s East in Trussville, with a stated schedule of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Requirements

• Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse by the Alabama Board of Nursing.
• Obtain BLS Provider certification within 30 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
• Graduate from an accredited Practical Nursing program or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Provide care to patients under the direction of a registered nurse or physician and within the scope of the LPN license.
• Contribute to patient assessments and help assure patients’ well-being.
• Administer medications and observe patients for adverse reactions to medications or treatments.
• Perform laboratory tests and therapeutic services.
• Educate patients and families about disease treatment plans, post-discharge self-care, holistic health needs, available resources, and follow-up care.
