About The Position

NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for its Faculty Group Practice (FGP) in Huntington. The LPN will assist the Registered Nurse (RN) in patient and family care by completing assigned tasks within the scope of practice for an LPN in New York State and NYU Langone policy. The role emphasizes providing competent, safe, and compassionate care, understanding the challenges patients face with health maintenance, illness, hospitalization, procedures, or diagnostic testing. Responsibilities include taking vital signs, recording medical history, and performing specific patient care tasks such as phlebotomy, point-of-care testing (finger stick with certification), and electrocardiograms.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an LPN program.
  • Current NYS OP LPN licensure and registration.
  • Ability to complete multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to thrive in a team work environment that pursues a positive patient care experience.
  • Physical stamina, manual dexterity, visual and aural acuity to perform responsibilities.
  • Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in patient-centered quality and performance improvement programs.
  • Acquires and maintains current LPN knowledge and competence.
  • Supports the missions, philosophy, standards, goals, and objectives of NYULH.
  • Collects patient healthcare data systematically using appropriate assessment techniques and instruments.
  • Enforces adherence to NYULH and FGP policies, procedures, and standards, including HIPAA, Compliance, and Human Resources.
  • Participates in the coordination of unit activities to provide patient care in a healing, humane, and caring environment.
  • Engages in self-assessment and participates in activities to promote professional growth and development.
  • Obtains patient vital signs, weights, and EKGs as needed.
  • Performs blood collection/phlebotomy as needed.
  • Administers medications, including injections, in accordance with NYULMC clinical guidelines and NYS Scope of Practice.
  • Assists with maintaining patient flow to and from exam rooms and treatment areas.
  • Assists in escorting patients and ensures charts are available with relevant information for physicians.
  • Maintains awareness of current patient-centered evidence-based practices and uses research data in patient care.
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team and promotes collegial relationships.
  • Assists patients and communicates with licensed providers for prescription renewals.
  • Performs patient-related functions as directed by a Licensed Provider and/or RN, including medication administration, vaccination, injections, patch placement, and assisting with procedures.
  • Communicates directly with patients regarding their care or treatment using appropriate terminology and a respectful manner.
  • Interacts efficiently with medical staff and professionally with support staff.
  • Serves as a support and resource for nursing staff and providers.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the NYUMC Service Standards and incorporates them into responsibilities.
  • Functions as a respectful member of the health care team.
  • Ensures clinical compliance with Patient Safety initiatives and reporting.
  • Ensures clinical in-baskets are maintained and encounters are closed in a timely manner.
  • Considers the needs and behaviors of specific patient age and cultural groups in all patient care activities.
  • Completes annual competencies such as Fire Safety, Hazardous Waste, Medsled, HIPPA compliance, etc.
  • Serves as a Faculty Group Practice Brand Ambassador by upholding the NYULH Mission, vision, and values.
  • Promotes excellence in the patient experience during every encounter.
  • Drives consistency in patient and colleague encounters by embodying the core principles of the FGP Service Strategy CARES (Connect, Align, Respond, Ensure, and Sign-Off).
  • Greets patients warmly and professionally, stating name and role, and clearly communicates each step of the care/interaction.
  • Works collaboratively to ensure a positive experience and timely resolution for all patient interactions and inquiries.
  • Proactively anticipates patient needs and participates in service recovery using the LEARN model.
  • Shares ideas to improve patient experience and access with appropriate leadership.
  • Partners with Patient Access Center and Central Billing Office team members to support collaboration and promote a positive patient experience.
  • Ensures practice staff are fully versed in Access Agreement gold standard principles.
