This is a part-time position for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) seeking additional hours, with an average of no more than 29 hours per week. LPNs provide evidence-based nursing care utilizing the nursing process, principles, practices, and techniques of general nursing care as determined by Standards of Practice under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Responsibilities include screening for sick call, administering medications, and providing first aid and basic life support to patients and employees as needed. The role requires maintaining open lines of communication with security and treatment staff, providing input and feedback to assist the facility provider in organizing a treatment plan, and recording all pertinent information into the medical record. Interaction with other departments as needed is also part of the role. The position promotes continued competence through education/certification with a focus on correctional nursing. Nurses must be able to work assigned hours, days, and locations, and be capable and available to provide coverage as needed to meet institutional needs. Assignments to other duties or locations may be necessary to meet the clinical and administrative needs of the Department. This is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period. This wage position offers no state benefits. This position is currently approved for a temporary enhanced hourly rate due to critical staffing needs at designated facilities. The enhanced rate will remain in effect only while the facility is experiencing critical staffing shortages.
