About The Position

The Saul and Claribel Simkin Centre is a 200-bed facility in south Winnipeg that provides care for individuals who can no longer live independently. It is a not-for-profit, government-funded facility that honours Jewish values and traditions while welcoming seniors of all backgrounds. The Licensed Practical Nurse assumes responsibility for coordinating and planning resident care on their designated shift, directing all levels of nursing staff to ensure optimal quality of care. The role fosters a client-focused, multi-disciplinary team approach to resident care and requires practice within the CLPNM standards of nursing care and Simkin Centre policies and procedures. All duties must be performed in accordance with established health and safety regulations/guidelines, policies, and procedures.

Requirements

  • Current registration in the College of Licensed Practical Nurses (CLPNM).
  • Current certification in Heart Saver or B.C.L.S.
  • Must possess good organization and communication skills.
  • Must have a high level of human relations skills.
  • Must be innovative, self-motivated and progressive.
  • Must have a good performance and attendance record.
  • Subject to a Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search, and an Adult Abuse Registry Check.

Nice To Haves

  • Continuing education courses related to gerontology, ethics and leadership and upgrading in current nursing skills are an asset.
  • Preferred three years experience in Geriatric and/or Rehabilitative Nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes responsibility for coordinating/planning resident care on their designated shift.
  • Directs all levels of nursing staff on the designated shift by ensuring that optimal quality of care is provided to all residents.
  • Fosters the client-focused multi-disciplinary team approach to resident care.
  • Practices within the CLPNM standards of nursing care and in accordance with Simkin Centre policies and procedures.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with established health and safety regulations/guidelines, policies and procedures.
