About The Position

The Meadows is a 105-bed Long Term Care Facility undergoing an exciting transformation to create empowered neighborhood teams focused on resident-centered care. The primary purpose of this position is to serve residents by attending to their medical needs and ensuring their physical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs are met throughout the day and night. The role also involves providing leadership, guidance, and teaching to other roles (CCA/LPN) and collaborating with neighborhood team members. The LPN will perform duties in accordance with The Meadows' Mission Statement, Standards, Policies, and Procedures. The position requires availability for all shifts, including days, nights, weekends, holidays, and call-ins. While mask and Covid vaccination mandates have been lifted, masks may be required during outbreaks. The Meadows is part of the HANS group benefits plan and NSHEPP pension plan. This position is part of the CUPE Bargaining Unit.

Requirements

  • LPN currently licensed in the Province of Nova Scotia
  • Completed Pharmacology through the LPN Core Program or through a post-graduate course approved by the Practical Nurses Licensing Board.
  • Must have or be willing to take CPR certification, the Alzheimer’s disease and Related Dementia Care course, and other courses that are offered or required.
  • The ability to use computers.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 6 months recent relevant experience administering meds required.
  • Minimum 6 months nursing experience required where good nursing judgment and skills and leadership abilities have been demonstrated.
  • Demonstrated sincere willingness and passion to engage and participate with those who live in our home and lead others to enhance resident’s social, emotional, physical and spiritual needs.
  • Experience in dealing with the elderly, including clients with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
  • Ability to prioritize and work in a busy environment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve residents by attending to their medical needs.
  • Ensure residents' physical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs are met.
  • Provide leadership, guiding, and teaching to other roles (CCA/LPN).
  • Work collaboratively with neighborhood team members.
  • Perform duties in accordance with the Mission Statement, Standards, Policies and Procedures of The Meadows (TVM).
  • Be available for all shifts – days, nights, weekends and holidays and call-in’s.
  • May be required to wear a mask for the duration of a shift in the event of an outbreak.
  • Be well organized and be able to initiate workload and work independently.
  • Work within your scope of practice and work closely with the Supervisors team.
  • Work in harmony as a member of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Be an example by promoting and upholding all policies.
  • Take an active role in coaching staff while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Keep things in confidence.
  • Be reliable and available to attend work.
  • May be responsible for care duties of facility pets.
