About The Position

Substitute placement is an on-call, as needed basis as directed by the daily needs of Aberdeen School District. Requirements

RN degree required.
Nursing license from the State of Washington required.
Current CPR certificate required.
Knowledge of current medical issues and regulations relating to school environment.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with students, staff and parents.

Nice To Haves

Bilingual/Spanish speaking preferred.
Current experience in nursing field preferred.

Responsibilities

Observes students on a regular basis to detect health needs.
Instructs teachers on screening for health concerns.
Administers medication and treatment prescribed by physicians.
Conducts parent conferences and maintains liaison between physicians, parents and staff.
Makes recommendations to primary care physician on health needs of individual students.
Writes student health care plans based on physician’s Delegates the administration of medication and health care to appropriate staff.
Trains and supervises staff providing health care support.
Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students requiring nursing intervention, reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics and other agencies on student health matters.
Assumes authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student who has suffered an injury or emergency illness.
Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures.
Implements board policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.
Conducts training for students and staff on handicapping, health and hygiene issues.
Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools.
