Requirements

  • Knowledge of practical nursing principles and practices applicable to infants, children, and adolescents.
  • Knowledge of pediatric growth and development, age-specific vital signs, developmental milestones, preventive care, and common pediatric health concerns.
  • Knowledge of pediatric medication administration, immunization practices, and adverse reaction protocols.
  • Understanding of the Florida Nurse Practice Act and the authorized scope of practice for a Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention, medication safety, standard precautions, specimen handling, and clinical documentation requirements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and compassionately with children, adolescents, parents, guardians, caregivers, providers, and coworkers.
  • Ability to use developmentally appropriate techniques to reduce anxiety and promote cooperation during clinical care.
  • Ability to recognize changes in a pediatric patient’s condition and promptly communicate concerns to the appropriate provider.
  • Ability to accurately calculate, verify, and administer pediatric medications within the LPN’s scope of practice and according to provider orders.
  • Ability to provide clear patient and caregiver education and reinforce provider instructions.
  • Ability to maintain accurate, complete, and timely electronic health record documentation.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced outpatient environment while maintaining patient safety and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information, maintain confidentiality, and exercise sound professional judgment.

  • Regular and predictable onsite attendance is required to support business operations.
  • Current, unrestricted license as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Florida is required.
  • Graduation from an accredited practical nursing program is required.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association or another PanCare-approved provider is required.
  • Must maintain all licenses and certifications required for the position throughout employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous pediatric, family practice, primary care, community health, school health, or outpatient nursing experience is preferred.
  • Experience working in a Federally Qualified Health Center or other community-based healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare pediatric patients for examination by obtaining and documenting vital signs, height, weight, head circumference, pain level, developmental information, medication history, allergies, and the reason for the visit.
  • Review patient records before and during the visit to identify preventive care needs, immunization status, outstanding orders, screenings, referrals, and other care gaps.
  • Assist pediatric providers with examinations, treatments, minor procedures, specimen collection, and other clinical activities within the LPN’s authorized scope of practice.
  • Administer medications and other treatments as ordered by an authorized provider and in accordance with applicable laws, clinical protocols, manufacturer guidance, and PanCare policies.
  • Verify medication, patient identity, dosage, route, expiration date, storage requirements, and other applicable administration requirements before providing treatment.
  • Monitor pediatric patients for adverse reactions following medication administration and/or treatment and respond in accordance with established clinical protocols.
  • Assist with pediatric screenings, which may include hearing, vision, developmental, behavioral, social needs, and other age-appropriate screenings as directed.
  • Perform point of care testing and collect, label, process, and prepare specimens in accordance with provider orders, infection prevention standards, and applicable laboratory requirements.
  • Communicate clinical observations, abnormal findings, changes in patient condition, and caregiver concerns promptly to the appropriate licensed provider.
  • Respond to patient or caregiver messages and telephone inquiries within the LPN’s scope of practice and according to provider-approved protocols.
  • Document all patient care activities accurately, thoroughly, and timely in the electronic health record.
  • Provide age-appropriate education to patients and caregivers regarding medications, immunizations, nutrition, preventive care, developmental milestones, treatment plans, follow up instructions, and other healthcare needs as directed by the provider.
  • Reinforce provider instructions and confirm that parents, guardians, and caregivers understand the recommended plan of care.
  • Assist with referrals, diagnostic testing, medication prior authorizations, prescription requests, school and daycare forms, and other clinical documentation as assigned and permitted.
  • Support the monitoring and follow up of pediatric patients with chronic conditions, developmental concerns, medication needs, missed appointments, abnormal test results, or other identified health risks.
  • Recognize and promptly report potential signs of abuse, neglect, exploitation, or unsafe conditions in accordance with mandatory reporting requirements and PanCare policies.
  • Maintain awareness of consent, guardianship, confidentiality, and authorized caregiver requirements applicable to the treatment of minors.
  • Follow established procedures for verifying the identity and authority of individuals providing consent or receiving protected health information on behalf of a minor.
  • Apply developmentally appropriate communication techniques when interacting with infants, children, adolescents, parents, guardians, and caregivers.
  • Use trauma informed and patient-centered approaches to reduce fear, anxiety, and distress during pediatric visits and procedures.
  • Clean and disinfect examination rooms, clinical surfaces, instruments, and equipment in accordance with infection prevention standards.
  • Maintain examination rooms and clinical work areas in a clean, organized, safe, and survey-ready condition.
  • Monitor clinical supplies, pediatric equipment, and medications for appropriate inventory levels, storage conditions, expiration dates, and proper functioning.
  • Participate in clinical huddles, staff meetings, training, quality improvement activities, emergency drills, and pediatric program development initiatives.
  • Assist in developing and improving pediatric clinical workflows, standing orders, patient education materials, and office procedures as assigned.
  • Collaborate respectfully and effectively with pediatric providers, medical assistants, front desk staff, care coordinators, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Protect patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, PanCare policies, professional standards, and all applicable federal and state requirements.
  • Follow PanCare’s Code of Conduct and demonstrate professionalism, compassion, accountability, integrity, and respect in all interactions.
  • Demonstrate commitment to organizational compliance and quality standards by following established policies and procedures, maintaining regulatory requirements, participating in quality improvement efforts, and reporting concerns through appropriate channels.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support business operations.
