About The Position

This position is for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Medical Assistant (MA) in an ambulatory setting at UVA Primary Care Riverside. The role involves providing direct patient care, patient education, and general support under the supervision of a physician or RN. The position requires serving all age populations. Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse Program (for LPN)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required (for MA)
  • None Required (Experience for both LPN and MA)
  • Licensed to practice as a Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Commonwealth of Virginia prior to onboarding (for LPN)
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider BLS certification required
  • Currently enrolled or have completion of a Medical Assistant Program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) and/or hold a current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as the AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants), the AMT (American Medical Technologists), NAHP (The National Association of Healthcare Professions), the ARMA (American Registry of Medical Assistants), or the NHA (National Healthcare Association) (for MA)
  • Medical Assistant Certification must be obtained within 6 months from the date of hire (for MA)

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care, ongoing education, and reinforcement of care plans.
  • Provide general support in an ambulatory setting.
  • Assist the registered nurse and/or provider through data collection concerning the physical, psychological, social, and cultural dimensions of patients.
  • Organize and prioritize nursing care activities considering the needs of the patients and the interdisciplinary team.
  • Implement age-appropriate interventions based on individual patient’s needs as directed by the registered nurse/provider.
  • Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of care given in progressing patients toward desired outcomes.
  • Provide ongoing education and reinforcement of care plans developed by the Provider/RN.
  • Provide a safe environment and safe delivery of care.
  • Assume responsibility for professional development of self and contributes to and assists with the professional development of others.
  • Demonstrate teamwork in the delivery of patient care.
  • Assist in assuring effective and efficient clinic operations while maintaining consistent and accurate communication with team members, referring providers, and patients.
  • Complete standardized rooming and perform clinical intake, data collection, and documentation.
  • Provide clinical support to licensed healthcare professionals during examinations and procedures, including preparing laboratory specimens, performing testing, cleaning instruments/equipment, disposing of contaminated supplies, performing wound care, and administering medications.
  • Organize and prioritize daily work assignments to support patient needs, the interdisciplinary team, and operational efficiency.
  • Reinforce patient/family teaching plan based on identified health education needs.
  • Maintain supplies and equipment.
  • Document and capture charges for clinical support services rendered within the patient visit.
  • Perform administrative support responsibilities, including drafting letters, assisting with forms completion, facilitating scheduling, pending medication refills, assisting with in-basket messaging, and assisting with clinic/chart prep.
  • Recognize the importance of time sensitive issues.
