About The Position

This is a Part-Time Licensed Practical Nurse or Medical Assistant position. The LPN/MA will be responsible for rooming patients, checking vital signs, entering medication history into medical software, and performing administrative duties as needed. The role requires working in harmony with others, exhibiting a positive attitude, and a commitment to the health center's mission. A consistent patient-centered, caring disposition is essential. The position involves direct and indirect patient care, including performing accurate work-ups, assessing patient status, assisting with patient education, providing skilled nursing care, administering medications and immunizations, anticipating provider needs, advocating for patients, documenting care, assisting with triage, and performing laboratory testing. The role also requires adherence to infection control guidelines and OSHA standards, and the ability to perform effectively in emergency situations.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) Program or Medical Assistance Program.
  • Two years' experience in a medical clinic preferred.
  • LPN currently licensed to practice in the state of Kansas.
  • Maintains current licensure, required training and credentialing.
  • Age Specific Competencies: Infants through Adolescents.
  • Age Specific Competencies: Adult.
  • Experience in ambulatory care setting.
  • Possesses strong clinical skills and competency in ambulatory care.
  • Strong interest in working with an interdisciplinary health team and culturally diverse patient populations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with routine clinic tasks, including maintaining emergency supplies, stock medications, immunizations, forms, sterile instrument inventory, equipment, and exam room inventory.
  • Assist in the orientation and education of new nursing employees.
  • Utilize performance improvement processes to identify center needs related to patient care and customer service.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in work roles and schedules.
  • Maintain awareness of new information applicable to the job.
  • Utilize slow time constructively to enhance center operations and assist other departments.

  • Perform accurate and thorough work ups and check-ins of all patients.
  • Accurately assess current status and preventive health status, and communicate needs to the provider.
  • Assist with patient education based on assessment of patient needs and clinic standards of nursing care and document in patient record.
  • Provide skilled nursing care, including safely and accurately performing technical skills (e.g., sterile dressings, EKGs, pulmonary treatments) and the safe, accurate administration of medications and immunizations.
  • Anticipate the needs of providers related to patient visits and assist providers with patient care.
  • Act as an advocate to ensure health needs are met, including responding to patient phone messages and requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Document all provider orders, nursing actions, and interventions on the patient record consistent with health center guidelines.
  • Assist with triage of patients on-site and via telephone for appropriateness and timeliness of care per standing orders.
  • Follow all established Infection Control guidelines and OSHA standards and participate in staff training events.
  • Exhibit caring qualities consistent with the values of the health center.
  • Perform laboratory testing, including proper handling and labeling of all test samples according to health center policies and in compliance with CLIA guidelines.
  • Keep patients/families informed of situations affecting their clinic visit (e.g., extended waiting times, seeing a different provider).
  • Perform effectively and appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
