The LPN is responsible for the administration of all medications and treatments during their shift, according to the established medical and nursing care plan. They work under the direction of the Head/Charge Nurse to provide optimum nursing care to all residents on the unit. The LPN continuously evaluates the behavior, symptoms, reactions, and progress of residents and discusses findings with the Nurse Manager/Charge Nurse. They administer and document all medications according to established policies and procedures, physician's orders, and Department of Health regulations. The LPN performs all treatments according to physician’s specific order and established policies and procedures. They discuss the need to discontinue or change a medication or treatment with the Nurse Manager/Charge Nurse. Additionally, the LPN orders prescribed medications, notifies the pharmacy of discontinued medications, and ensures the accuracy of medications and dosages when received from the pharmacy.
