About The Position

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Pediatrics has an exciting opportunity for a full time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) position to work in Miami, FL. The LPN works under the direction of a Registered Nurse as part of a team to provide quality care to designated patients. Responsibilities include but are not limited to participating in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care, as well as cooperating with the members of the nursing and medical staffs and other hospital departments. The LPN works within the scope of practice within the Florida Board of Nursing Practice Act. The Pediatric Allergy/Immunology program at the University of Miami Batchelor Children’s Research Institute is seeking a motivated LPN with interest in the field of Allergy and Primary Immunodeficiency disorders who will help grow the clinical service and provide excellent family centered patient care to children with a variety of issues including allergies, and a range of primary immunodeficiency disorders. We encourage excellent patient care including knowledge of clinical coordination.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum one year of experience preferred
  • Valid State of Florida LPN license
  • BLS from American Heart Association only.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
  • Commitment to the University’s core values.
  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
  • Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Collects patient assessment data, notifies appropriate nurses of actual or potential problems, and needs on an ongoing basis.
  • Records patient information concisely, accurately, and completely.
  • Administers medications and performs treatments and procedures for all patients as assigned.
  • Assists with preparation of patient materials or correspondence that RNs, ARNPs, or MDs utilize to communicate with organizations within or outside the University.
  • Assists in preoperative and postoperative health teaching for patients and families.
  • Shares responsibility for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care plans.
  • Participate in team conferences, sharing knowledge, information, and ideas with team members.
  • Performs more complex nursing activities as competence increases.
  • Communicates frequently with team leaders regarding patients’ physical and mental conditions.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies, procedures, and safeguards University assets.
  • Responsible for patient intake, attending clinics, calling pharmacy for prescription refills.
  • Obtaining lab results, medical records
  • Preparation of charts: review prior orders, ensure that results are obtained.
  • Prepares patients and assists providers with treatments and examinations.
  • Relates effectively to other staff for continuity of care.
  • Authorizations for Medicines and/or Procedures.
  • Participates in all phases of education and maintenance of records
  • Travel to other clinics for coverage, in or out of the medical campus.
  • Upkeeps credentials, licenses and BLS.
  • Schedule, reschedule, and confirm appointments.
  • Provides school notes and documents necessary for follow-up visits.
  • Ensure that new initiatives are implemented, and goals are met.
  • Teamwork and effective communication are of the utmost importance
  • Can safely perform blood drawing.
