About The Position

As the Family Medicine Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you play a key role in our family Medicine setting, functioning as an office nurse and helping to maintain a smooth daily routine by performing a variety of clinical duties that allow quality time between patient and physician. You monitor and manage medications, patient rooms, state vaccines, medical equipment and supplies, laundry, and educational materials. You manage assigned doctors’ and/or nurse practitioners’ patients, including callbacks and test results, under their specific directions. Why Choose Day Kimball Health? Requirements

  • Current LPN License (Connecticut)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR Certification
  • High School Diploma
  • Two years as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in hospital, office, or family medicine setting.

  • Completion of additional college-level coursework in healthcare or nursing

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in a family medicine setting, assisting your provider by documenting the chief complaint and essential data such as height, weight, blood pressure, and head circumference.
  • Maintain an even distribution of patients for the assigned nurse practitioner or pediatrician and keep exam rooms properly stocked with medical and educational materials.
  • Assist patients to X-ray, lab, or the ED when needed, set up nebulizer treatments, and monitor patients.
  • Responsible for documenting in the medical record and completing school or camp forms.
  • After consulting with the provider, you reinforce education and health information with parents, guardians, or patients.
  • Answer a variety of medical questions or refer them to the doctor or nurse practitioner when necessary.
  • Accurately record messages, follow identified protocols regarding health concerns or issues, and follow up with the provider as needed.
  • Assist the physician or nurse practitioner in emergency situations and prepare the proper equipment for procedures.
  • Assist in minor procedures such as PKU, sutures, and catheterization as needed, and you are responsible for administering immunizations and allergy shots while documenting them in the proper areas.
  • Obtain strep cultures from patients, document them, and ensure the culture is sent to the lab in a timely manner.
  • Secure all exam and lab rooms and restock supplies daily.
  • Retrieve special orders from the lab and X-ray when requested by the provider.
